Men versus women weight loss- not fair

When it comes to men versus women weight loss the favor is with the guys. It's not fair I know, but that is the way it goes. There are several reasons for this, some of it is self induced by women themselves, as much as it pains me to admit that.

Women bodies are made to hold on to weight due to the rigors of pregnancy. They also have to deal with the very real hormone and weight fluctuations that occur during menstruation and continue on to menopause.

For these reasons women do tend to hold on to the weight they gain and can also tend to gain it more easily.

Now for the part that is self induced. As a woman, I can say that I just want to scream for the women out there to wake up and lift weights. Men have a decided advantage when it comes to increasing metabolisms with weight training. Why, simple, they do it. Most women don't.

A study has shown that both men and women will lose weight at equal speed if, and only if, they both have high burning metabolism due in part to weight training.

Another study showed that women who did cardiovascular exercise, only, three times a week didn't lose as much weight as the women, and men, who did cardiovascular exercises in conjunction with a full on weight training regimen.

Now, let me say this loud and clear: women, unless you take pills or workout full time with a totally clean diet (that means absolutely, positively no cheating) you will not get big.

There is simply no way you will get all bulked up by accident. It won't happen. What you can do is add attractive muscle tone that will make you look hot, sexy and get the added benefit of increasing your metabolism.

Why on Earth would you not want to do that? It simply makes no sense to not incorporate some weight training into your workout routine.

There is one way that women have a slight edge over men in the men versus women weight loss race and that is with diet.

Women tend to pay more attention to the quantity and types of foods they eat. This has happened in part because they know that they will hold on to the excess weight longer.

Men have the ability to eat more junk and still not gain weight so to a large degree, they don't modify their diet as much as women. They try to work off the excess weight with exercise and totally ignore the diet side of the equation.

So, ladies, if I were you I would think long and hard before I got into a bet with a guy about who can lose the most weight the quickest. If you do some weight training, though, you might just get the edge in the men versus women weight loss race, but only if you combine diet, exercise including weight training. Don't tell him about the whole diet thing!
