Soccer goal net - help your kid get good

Sports RSS Feed

Hey, what parent doesn't want to help their kid in any way they can? For you that might mean adding a soccer goal net to the backyard. Before you go out on your search for the perfect net, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. There are a lot of sources where you can get your net, but you want to make sure that the dealer is reputable and that you get the best price available.

It's important that you keep in mind the size restrictions of your yard. It may sound obvious but when you're at a huge store the nets don't seem as large as they will when you get them home. Make sure you know what size you're looking for first.

Soccer nets are generally made of polyethylene. There is a lot of variation in the overall size: heights, widths and depths at the top and base at the bottom. Cord thickness can also vary from one net to the next. The cord thickness is between 2 and 5 mm.

The mesh size can also vary, this is the size of the squares that make up the net. The mesh size can range from 2" to 5.5". Taking all these factors into consideration will determine the price of the net.

If your kid is older, than say 12 or so, you should buy the thicker cord since it will hold up better to a ball moving with more force than a thinner cord will. If you get a net that is overly big you can also double it to increase it's strength.

Most suppliers will sell their nets in pairs. If you just don't have the budget or the room, for two nets do a search online for a supplier that will sell individual nets.

When it comes to fastening your net you have many choices, some work better than others and some are less expensive than others. You can use Velcro fasteners but these tend to be on the high side when it comes to price. They also don't tend to last much more than a year. Bungee's can work well and be more long term and they are pretty cheap.

A good cheap route will be to use twine or thin rope. These are both cheap options that will last long and work well.

For any parent out there who wants to give their kid a leg up when it comes to excelling at their chosen sport, you don't have to break the bank in order to help them out. There is a great variety in the size and make up of the nets for your backyard soccer stadium. It can be far less expensive than you may have thought. To make sure you get the best deal you can, take some time to look around both online and at your local sporting goods store. Don't forget about sites like Ebay and Craigslist either. You may be able to find a really good deal on a soccer goal net.
