Comic book software - an advance in the comic book industry

Software RSS Feed

Comic books have been around for decades and there is a chance you may have seen your fair share. Comic book artwork has also been around the same length of time.Starting in the beginning as black and white shaded outlines to the more modern comic of today, which features glossy, bold colors.

As days have gone by the comic book industry has adapted and become much more sophisticated. Originally comics were hand drawn, however now comic book software is used to create those fancy full color editions. In the very beginning of comic book creation, it was quite a difficult and lengthy process to create one book or even an issue.

An artist would have to draw a rough sketch, then refine the drawing, put it into a panel, have it colored and inked. At this stage the artwork was ready to be published. The amount of time and the sheer manpower that it took to finish one page was absolutely ridiculous. Back then it could easily take a team of 10 to 20 people to complete a single issue each week. With the use of comic book software in these modern times, the publishing times and man power needed has been drastically cut.

In our technologically advanced times, many of the tasks in publishing a comic book have been automated and allows the creators to work on other important aspects of the comic book. One software will allow an artist to draw and refine a sketch, put the details into a panel, have them automatically inked and colored and then convert them to a neat compilation that is ready for printing.

What once took an entire team to create a comic is now done with comic book software. Since software is an excellent option for automation tasks, the mundane tasks are no longer a part of the artist's repertoire. Another benefit of comic book software is that it allows an artist the ability to be more experimental.

Since no paper or ink is wasted, the software allows the artist to make many changes as he or she is going through the drawing process. Software can also enhance special effects that are nearly impossible to accomplish when hand drawn. Certain elements on a page that needed coloring would have taken a few minutes when done by hand. However, the software makes it so much easier and with a few quick clicks, the area is colored.

Budding artists will find that comic book software will allow them to keep up with the demands of their work load. Before there was software an artist would have to go back and manually start the drawing from scratch. Now there is less of a chance for error because a procedure is done after calculated input from the artist.

Many times an artist will have to save his work and be able to go back and make changes. Comic book software makes this quick and hassle free. An artist has an arsenal of developing and illustration tools.Comic book software is a great addition to this arsenal.

Creativity and input from a person is very important for a comic book to become successful, however the software will cut down on the repetitive tasks that were once very time consuming.
