Creating a treasure hunt game for your kids to play around the house

Recreation RSS Feed

I always wished I could be one of those parents who could pull off a really cool party for their kids with fun and exciting activities, but I never felt I was creative enough to do that. That was the reason why we have started the treasure hunt website. Instead of spending a heck of a lot of money on professional entertainers for parties, we offer a simple solution, which allows any parent to very, very easily create a treasure hunt game for their kids.

A treasure hunt is one of the most exciting activities a parent can set up for his or her kids. The purpose of the game is to follow a trail of clues around the house or backyard, where each hidden note includes a clue leading to the next note on the trail. After solving 3-5 and even more clues, the participants, usually in small groups of 2-5 kids, will eventually find their "treasure" which could be anything from Easter eggs, to candy, to a birthday cake or a birthday present.

Another way you can play Treasure hunt, is as a family past-time, with just one or two kids working together to find clues around the house. This is a great idea if your child's birthday comes up and you are looking for an original way to give them their birthday presents.

The downside about treasure hunt, of course, is that you have to spend a lot of time and effort to create all of the clues and hints. This is a tedious and exhausting job. But on TreasureHuntClues.org ( http://www.treasurehuntclues.org ) we found a way to make this as easy as making a few selections on a form. This website includes a large database of clues, puzzles, hide locations around the house and graphical themes. Once you make your selections, the server will instantly create a PDF file for you which you can download and print at home. Each page in the printout will be a separate clue which you hide in a designated spot in the house or backyard.

Besides the ease of creating the game, the game we offer gives much more than your typical treasure hunt game. Instead of simple riddles and limericks, each clue on the game the website creates for you includes a different kind of puzzle. We offer a wide variety of puzzles, including mazes, crossword puzzles, word puzzles, jumble puzzles and even optical illusions and puzzles you need to fold in a special manner, cut and reassemble or hold against a strong light or use a mirror. This great variety of puzzles, categorized by children age groups, make for a game even more exciting than you remember from your childhood. Each of our puzzles is designed by a graphical designer, so the puzzles themselves are colorful and intriguing.

Besides the basic puzzles, when you visit the site, you can choose from a wide variety of graphical themes ( http://www.treasurehuntclues.org/learn/our-themes.html )to accompany the puzzles, which means you can select your printout game to be decorated with your kid's favorite subject, be it dinosaurs, princesses, wild animals and many, many more. There are also graphical themes for Christmas, Easter, New year's eve, birthdays and other special occasions. Each page on the printout will also include a fun fact (i.e. piece of trivia) regarding the theme's subject.

So how does it work?
You enter the site's game creation wizard ( http://www.treasurehuntclues.org/createyourgame.html ), and fill out the simple form, you will be asked to select a graphical theme, specify your kids' age group, and select up to 6 hiding locations around the house and yard. You can also choose to write your own greeting to your kids for when they find the treasure. This greeting will appear on the printed treasure note. When you are done, a PDF file will be created for you. Now all you have to do is download it, print it and hide the clues around the house.

That's it, you are ready to play.
Have fun
