Tallest buildings in toronto

Real estate RSS Feed

Toronto the biggest city of Canada is known for its huge and massive buildings. There are a lot of buildings that are renowned and are rated among the tallest in the world and are present in Toronto. The tallest structure in Toronto is the CN Tower, which rises 553 meters. The CN Tower was the tallest free-standing structure on land from 1975 until 2007. It continued its dominance for more than 32 years as the largest and tallest building in the world. However it is not generally considered a high-rise building as it does not have successive floors that can be occupied.
Other than that the second tallest habitable building in the city is First Canadian Place, which rises 298 meters tall in Toronto's Financial District and was completed in 1975 and is still in a pretty good shape. It also stands among the tallest buildings in Canada. Scotia Plaza is the third-tallest building in the city and the country. The history of skyscrapers in Toronto began a long time ago. It all began in 1894 with the construction of the Beard Building which is often regarded as the first skyscraper in the city. Toronto went through an early building boom in the late 1920s and early 1930s during which several high-rise buildings were constructed. The city experienced a second much larger building boom that lasted from the late 1960s to early 1990s and during this time the most of tall buildings were built. During that time it saw the construction of 14 skyscrapers including First Canadian Place.
Overall, Toronto is the site of 23 skyscrapers that rise at least 150 meters in height and has a total of 1,747 high-rises. Toronto has been the site of several skyscraper construction projects in recent years. The most recently completed skyscraper in the city is the Bay Adelaide Centre West Tower, which was constructed in 2009 and rises 218 meters. The tallest building approved for construction in the city is One Bloor East, which would become the second-tallest building and third-tallest structure in Toronto upon completion in 2012. The building is planned to rise 291 meters however, plans for this site are currently in flux. As of November 2008, there are 376 high-rise buildings under construction, proposed for construction or approved for construction in the city.
These facts and figures that are being discussed above are quite evident and speak for themselves the importance of Toronto for Canada and all the skyscrapers that are present over there. Coming up on top for such a glorious achievement is what all the cities cannot do but this city is known for its tall and huge skyscrapers. In the next decade Toronto might be on top of the list among those cities which are known for its tall buildings. There are 60+ buildings that have a height of more than 400 feet and are currently present in Toronto. This city promises to be home to some of the most amazing ang massive buildings.
