Deep fish fryer kits serve a dual purpose

Kitchen RSS Feed

A deep turkey fryer can be used as a deep fish fryer too. There are many different fryers available but all are basically the same design and work in the same way too.

If you plan to do all your deep frying outside you do not even have to consider buying an electric fryer. Electric fryers are mainly for indoor use. You may think you will have to buy all the things you need piece by piece but you don't. Turkey fryers and accessories come in kits with everything you need all together. Sure there are other things you can buy or may find you need but for the most part everything you need to get started is included in the kits available.

Prices for these starter kits range from $150 on up. If you have a gas grill, you will not even have to buy the propane tank because you already have one. Just make sure it is full when you use it. You don't want to run out of propane when cooking your turkey or frying your fish. When you are not using the fryer as a fryer, you can use it as a steamer or a pot for boiling. They are very versatile.

The kits usually include a poultry rack, fryer basket for the fish, skewer, a hook for lifting the skewer with the bird on it, a thermometer and marinade and spice injectors to increase the flavor of what you are cooking. Usually these are used for a turkey or other poultry not necessarily for the fish you are going to fry.

Some things to keep in mind about the deep fish fryer process is to make sure the temperature you cook at is correct. If the fryer you buy does not have a temperature regulator on it, and the propane fryers usually do not, you will need to carefully measure the temperature with a thermometer.

If you do not heat the oil sufficiently, the food will not cook fast enough and the meat or fish will absorb the oil and spoil the flavor of the food. If the oil is too hot the outside of the food will cook too quickly and leave the inside raw.

You should also be careful to not overfill the pot with the oil. Some pots may come with a fill line to show you how much oil you should use. If there is no fill line you will need to experiment to find the correct level.

While the bird is still cold or even frozen, place it in the pot and fill the pot with water to the level where it covers the bird. Then take the bird out and make a mental note of where the level of oil should be. This will prevent you from having a hot oil spill and keep you safer. There are frying gloves available too that will protect you from burns.

Fish fries quickly, in approximately 5 to 7 minutes each side, if the oil is hot enough. You should watch the fish carefully and remove it from the deep fish fryer with a slotted spoon or basket when it turns a nice golden brown. Drain the fish on paper towels and serve hot.
