Packing techniques to stored holding in good condition

Home organization RSS Feed

When you are preparing your belongings for and interstate move or even for a short haul between cities, there are some packing techniques you can use to not only keep your belongings safe but also ensure that they arrive in pristine condition.

During any removal your packages may end up on trucks with many other items from a variety of customers. It is quite common for packages to be removed and repacked onto a truck during intermittent drop-offs so you need to use boxes that are able to stand up to the constant loading and unloading.

Here are five tips you should always follow when packing up your belongings for removal.

1. Always use high-quality double thickness cardboard cartons. Using crushed paper on the bottom of the carton is a good way to start your packing, and whilst making sure that the cartons are packed firmly do not overloaded and make sure there is space between every item. Any empty space should be packed with blankets or cushions to fill the void. The carton should be packed so that it can be completely closed.

2. All items should be carefully wrapped individually using cloth or paper to provide cushioning to absorb shocks and bumps of travelling.

3. Always placed the heaviest items on the bottom of the box and then arrange items in layers so that the light asylums are at the top. If you have small boxes you can place them into a single large box and fill the gaps with crushed paper. Make sure you do not overload the carton and keep its weight low enough so it can be comfortably lifted by one person.

4. Keep all fragile items separate in their own containers. If you mix them with heavy or hard items you run the risk of breakage. Label every carton containing fragile goods so that extra care can be exercised when moving them.

5. When you seal the cartons make sure you use plastic gummed tape. Duct tape will peel easily during a move because of the constant movement.

By using the simple methods you can be confident that your goods will be transported safely to their final destination, like a new house or office. There are a few extra precautions you can take however to give you complete peace of mind so make a note of these points.

Number every carton so that you are certain that you’re items are delivered complete. By noting each carton as ‘’1 of 10’’ for example, a quick count at the end destination will confirm that everything has been delivered.

Make sure all electrical cables are wound up and taped so they don’t hang loose with the carton.

List the contents on the side of the carton so you can place them in the appropriate rooms on your arrival. This will enable you to organize your own packing in an orderly fashion.

Any move is a physically demanding and tedious process, so it is worth making the extra effort to ensure that you use the right packaging techniques and removal boxes to get the best result.
