Selecting a chair

Home improvement RSS Feed

Chairs are the essential part of the furniture that are used in all the private and the public places. There are many places from where you can buy the chairs. A lot of first hand and second hand furniture outlets are present, along with the many online shops where you can have a large variety to choose from. This great range of stores, numerous designs and materials put you at a fix and you feel yourself confused at what to buy and what not to buy.
There are many things that you need to consider when you are buying a chair. Two most important things are the ergonomic and the non-ergonomic features. The ergonomic features are the features that add to the comfort and the non ergonomic features are the ones that determine the other functions. Ergonomics is especially very important while buying a chair for the work places and offices because here you have to sit for more than eight hours and sitting on something uncomfortable will make your back, neck and shoulders strain and decrease the performance. So try buying a chair with a curved back and gas spring. Gas spring will help you adjust the height and the curved back will provide a cushioning effect that will not be present if you have bought a straight chair. Also the armrests are an important accessory that would soothe the shoulder pains. In this manner the office environment will become much more comfortable and conducive for the workers.
When we talk about the non ergonomic features we mean that the chair should serve other purposes as well. The first thing that you would consider is the size. If you are buying the furniture for a small space than it will be good to buy something that takes less space means that narrow frames would produce better results. However if you have a roomy apartment to furnish, buy something grand that would beautifully cover the space. Also the size of the chair will be affected by the size of the occupant. If you are buying a chair for a small child, try to buy a small chair. Many times when we don’t have enough space or we demand portability, it is better to use fold-able chairs. These chairs can easily be kept below the bed or behind the door and used as and when required.
If you are buying a chair also consider the weight. A very heavy chair may not be comfortable to carry and should not be used in patios where the portability is often needed. However if you want the chairs to stay at the same place then heavy chairs may serve the purpose. Stain resistance is also very important property that may be needed in open air patios. Also you may also need to check the stack-ability of the chairs if you are using them for a class room where sometimes you may need extra chairs but don’t want to make the room congested by putting them all at once.
