Landscape architecture
Landscape is the word which is used to define the visible features of an area of a land like, plains, rivers, canals, mountains, roads, buildings, wells, sea, landforms, vegetation, forests, plants and transitory elements like weather, clouds, lighting. On the other hand landscape architecture is the design of the land and public spaces to meet some certain environmental, social and aesthetic requirements. In much simpler words, it the changes made in the natural landscape by man to fulfill some certain requirement, for example, cutting down of trees and clearing the land to build a house etc.
Landscape architecture basically is a multi – disciplinary field incorporating many aspects of botany, horticulture, the fine arts, architecture, industrial design, earth sciences, environmental psychology, geography, ecology and geology. The landscape architects works on all kind of projects, large or small, doesn’t matter, because the main thing behind any project is that, it has to be completed to fulfill some certain requirement. The types of the projects are quite large, however, some of the examples are planning form and scale of the new developments, civil designs, home and other businesses designs, parks, botanical gardens, zoos, recreational parks, highways, roads, streets, overhead bridges, roundabouts, dams, reservoirs, barrages, power stations, tourist destinations, hotels, motels, restaurants, hospitals, recreational facilities, schools, universities, industrial parks, estate developments, housing schemes, urban designs, design of the buildings etc. all of these are the types of the projects that the landscaping architects have to deal with.
Landscaping architecture dates before 1800s, at that time, the gardens were the main things the people of that time spent time on to make them a masterpiece, however, with time people started to plan ahead things and started carving up the building to make them beautiful, an interesting and detailed history can be found on the internet, regarding this type field. However, it in the 20th century that this field became extremely popular and courses related to this field was taught in the colleges and universities.
In some countries professional institutes had been made regarding this field, where professionals sit and offer their services to the client for his project. Some examples of the institutes are, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, in Australia which provides professional reorganization for landscape architecture. Then in Canada this profession is self regulating like medicine and law and there are more than one intuition handling this responsibility and which take the best trained men after they have cleared the test. AIAPP or Italian Association of Land Architecture is present in Italy. The UK’s professional body is known by the name of Landscape Institute. In United States, this profession is governed or regulated by individual state government, that is, there is no one big major association that keeps track of all the rest of the smaller institutions. In the same way there are various other too present in other countries of the world.
