Three types of pressure washers

Home improvement RSS Feed

Pressure washers eject water at high pressure to provide advanced cleaning and eliminate tough, dried-on, caked-on, or otherwise stuck dirt, grime and other deposits. Their powerful cleaning ability is just the thing for home, industrial or commercial work. A range of versions and strengths makes it easy to choose the perfect pressure washer for your needs.

Three main models are available- hot water, cold water and steam power. Hot water models include electric, propane and gas powered washers, and are necessary for some cleaning, but other jobs may require only a cold water or steam power model. Hot water washers are for more difficult jobs. The high-powered stream of hot water they emit is designed to get rid of all sorts of grime, grease, dirt, stains and oil. Hot water, up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit softens the grime and makes it easier to remove. This ability makes them perfect for areas with a lot of grease and oil, such as food manufacturing plants, or my kitchen. The hot water dissolves the grease and washes it away. On the other hand, cold water machines used in this type of environment will do more harm than good. You know how cooking grease solidifies when left at room temperature for a while? Blasting it with cold water will make it solidify harder and faster, and make it even tougher to remove. However, you can make it work if you add a chemical degreaser to the cold water. If getting rid of grease and oil is your main focus though, it is definitely easier to go with a hot water model.

Cold water models, though, are perfect for home and commercial cleaning jobs that don't need the intense power of steam or hot water. They are lighter than hot water or steam units, and and compact and portable since they don't have extra fuel tanks needed for heating water. This makes them especially well-suited for use in homes or other areas where space or mobility may be an issue.

Steam pressure washers are the most heavy duty of the three options. These are available with propane, electric or gas power. They deliver super-heated, pressurized steam to blast off the really tough stuff with very little effort. The steam can be heated up to 330 degrees Fahrenheit. This searing steam easily dissolves stains and grease without using any dissolving chemicals, though the process may be accelerated with the use of such chemicals. Steam machines are a favorite of the auto detailing industry, as they can be used to get rid of road salt, dirt, tree sap, and other residues that build up on cars.

A tri-mode unit is one that has the capacity to perform the function of each of these three models. These advanced pressure washers are a great choice if you see a need for cold water, hot water, and steam cleaning.

If you need to clean building exteriors, an industrial pressure washer will be your best bet. They are highly effective, and can be modified to perform exactly the work you need done. You building exterior gives the first impression visitors or customers develop when they arrive. Using a pressure washer on the exterior will improve its appearance just like taking a shower does for you. This maintenance will also help the building last longer, as accumulation of dust, dirt and sand particles will erode the paint and building surface. Removing this debris will help prevent cracks and chips, which in turn prevents the growth of molds and fungi, neither of which are terribly impressive elements on the face of a building. Of the many levels of pressure washers available, only some of the most industrial options would not be appropriate for building care, as they may be too powerful and cause slight damage rather than maintenance. However, low to mid-power a href="http://www.powerfulpressurewashers.com">pressure washers are available that are designed for use on sensitive surfaces, as well as surfaces that are susceptible to water damage.

The best advice I can give is to select the pressure washer that fits your needs. Electric pressure washers are great for indoor use, as they are quiet and emit no exhaust. They can be used for exterior cleaning as well, but do require access to an electrical outlet. Gas and propane pressure washers work wonderfully for outdoor jobs since they operate independently of an electric energy supply. The exhaust and high noise produced necessitate good ventilation.

Whichever type of pressure washer you decide best fits your needs, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the speed and efficiency it provides.
