Home burglar alarm security system - 3 key tips

Home improvement RSS Feed

One of the biggest things you need to keep in mind when you first start your hunt for a home burglar alarm security system, is that there are a lot of components and virtually endless ways of putting those components together. Figuring out what is best for you and your home needs to come down to more than just which one is cheapest, though of course, your budget will enter into the equation.

To figure out your options take a trip down to your local home improvement store, this will be a good idea even if you are planning on having a company install and monitor your system. It's always a good idea to familiarize yourself with what's available and what you want or need before you meet with a sales person. That can help prevent you from getting more system than you really need.

Here is an overview of some of the most common components of a security system. This list is by no means complete, but it's a good idea of where the average homeowner should start:

1. Cameras. You will have a lot of variety in the number and types of cameras you can use with your system. There are cameras that are motion activated, cameras that have night vision capabilities, color cameras, black and white cameras. You can record the feed from your cameras on a tape or it can be recorded digitally right on your computer.

When considering where to place your cameras make sure you carefully consider the line of sight. If you want to mount a camera on the roof so it will get a view of the front door, make sure there are no obstacles that will block the view of the camera. This is really important if you mount a system in the fall or early spring before the leaves have come out. If you mount a camera in the fall it might have a great view of the front door but what happens when the tree gets all of it's leaves on it, can the camera still see the front door?

2. Motion alarms. These will set off the alarm when motion is detected Since they can be set off by a breeze and animals it's best to use these only inside. If you have an open space with a lot of windows, you might be able to mount a motion sensor that will cover the whole area. That way if someone comes in through the windows the alarm will sound.

3. Medical and smoke alarms. You can now tie these types of alarms into your home security system. This is especially helpful for older adults or those that have medical issues.

These are just some of the many components you can put together to create a truly comprehensive home security package. When thinking about the layout of your home and possible locations for cameras and motion sensors, don't forget about the second floor, this is a place that gets overlooked a lot. Many people mistakenly think that since it's on the second floor it's safe. Not so much.

Take a close look at the way your home is laid out, could you climb up on the roof from your porch, or a tree, or your neighbors porch? Do you or one of our neighbors have an extension ladder stored outside where it is easy to get to? You may find it hard to believe but many burglars have gotten into a home by grabbing a ladder from a neighbor and just climbed right in! Use a home burglar alarm security system to secure your whole home, even the second floor.

With the right home security system, figuring out how to keep a house secure inside and out becomes a whole lot easier. Remember that a new home security system does more than just keep criminals out: www.nowspy.com.
