Where to buy butterfly gardens and tips to get started

Gardening RSS Feed

It seems more and more people are embracing the outdoors and are getting back to the simple pleasures of spending time in their backyard and planting beautiful, and functional gardens. If you are interested in adding a butterfly garden to your backyard, than one of the first things you may want to know is where to buy butterfly gardens.

If you want to buy a kit of the flowers you need to attract butterflies to your yard, the first place I would recommend is your own local nursery or garden center. That is the best place to start since they can provide you with information about your locale. That means the right type of plants that will grow in your climate and with your soil type. As well as what type of flowers and plants are best to attract the most common species of butterflies in your area of the country.

If you don't want to do that, or they can't help you, you can always turn to the internet. you can do a search for "where to buy butterfly gardens" and see what you come up with.

Make sure that whatever type of garden you find that you check to make sure that the plants and flowers will grow in your area. If you live in the northern part of the country, it won't do you much good to buy tropical plants for your garden. So make sure you take your climate and soil conditions into consideration before you buy.

It's actually pretty easy to plan your own butterfly garden, here are some basics to keep in mind before you start:

1. Pick a spot in your yard that is protected from the wind as much as possible. Butterflies tend to like more calm conditions.

2. You don't need a big yard to have a beautiful butterfly garden, you can plant the varieties of flowers that butterflies prefer right in containers on your deck or patio and still get the full enjoyment of all the butterflies!

3. Different species of butterflies prefer different types of plants, and the caterpillars prefer different plants to what the adult butterfly of the same species likes. So remember when you are planning your garden to not only include plants for a specific species of butterflies, but to accommodate their needs throughout their whole life cycle.

4. One of the basics to any good garden plan is to make sure that the soil is healthy and filled with nutrients. One simple, and natural, way to do that is to add compost to your soil. That will ensure that your plants grow bigger and faster.

5. To maintain moisture in the soil, add mulch around your plants. This can cut down on the amount of watering you will need to do.

6. Speaking of watering, don't make your local water company rich over the summer. Instead invest in an inexpensive watering barrel that will catch rainwater. You can then use that rainwater to water your garden and your yard. Rainwater is not only cheaper, it's better too since it doesn't have chlorine in it.

If you want to know where to buy butterfly gardens the answer may well be right in your own backyard.
