Advantages of womens gyms-no ogling

Gyms and fitness centers are doing a thriving business. While some industries suffer during a sluggish economy, health clubs figured out a way to not only get by, but to actually increase their profits. One way they did this was by catering to the specific wants and needs of their clients. A general fitness center will typically offer a wide range of exercise-related activities and is open to anybody willing to sign the monthly contract. But then there are those that limit their membership to women only. Here are some advantages of women's gyms.

1. No ogling. Let's face it, people that go to gyms tend to be in better shape physically, when compared to those who don't go to gyms. Add to that the release of hormones and pheromones that go along with working out, and it's no wonder that people's eyes tend to wander to places that decency dictates they shouldn't. To put it another way, men checking out your body isn't all that much fun. Not only that, you don't have to worry about guys constantly trying to hit on you and trying to make uncomfortable small talk (not to mention not having to see them pose whenever you're nearby). While it may not have a lot to do with physical health, it's definitely one of the psychological advantages of women's gyms.

2. Gender-specific workouts. Going to a coed gym can be an interesting experience, to say the least. But one of the big problems is that far too many of them act as though everybody wants bulging biceps...or worse...they assume that women only want to do aerobics and yoga. These may not be written rules, but the overall culture of the gym makes it clear that gender roles are meant to be well-defined within the walls of this fitness club! What a bunch of nonsense. At any rate, women's only gyms don't have that problem. While they focus on the workouts most women can benefit from, they will also let you workout the way you want without fear of being sneered at. Having trainers that understand women is another plus.

3. A more friendly atmosphere. Belonging to a health club that caters to a specific clientele makes you feel more of a sense of belonging; this is true of women's gyms, or any other gym that limits its membership. You automatically are included as part of the "in crowd" and that can make for a much more pleasant experience. Going to a mega-gym makes you feel as though you're just a number, not a member. But that's not the case at women's gyms. Instead of working out with a bunch of "gym rats" you will be getting healthy with your friends.

These are only some of the biggest advantages of women's gyms, but there are others. The best way to find out what those are is to join a fitness center in your area that's made for women only.
