Nokia 5230 touchscreen phone is it any good

Cell phone RSS Feed

Nokia has been a laggard when it comes to Touchscreen Phones. While other phone manufacturers have raced ahead in touchscreen market, Nokia is still nowhere in sight. Nokia now is pulling socks up and has come up with entry level Touchscreen Phones. One of them is Nokia 5230. It is a Symbian S60 smartphone targeted at people who do not want to spend much. The success of LG cookie has shown that this a big market which needs to be catered to.

Looks wise, the phone looks exactly like Nokia 5800. It has a large 3.2 inch display with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. So, the screen and resolution are pretty decent. It has a resistive touchscreen which is not as responsive as a capacitive one. It comes with a stylus so a good thing for users with thick fingers! Internet browsing and multimedia looks quite good on the display.

It is a 3G phone and has high speed HSDPA and offers download speed of up to 3.6 Mbps. But unfortunately it lacks Wi-fi. It has USB and Bluetooth though.

When it comes to music, it does not have stereo speakers but has a music player, FM radio and a 3.5 mm jack.

I was disappointed by its camera. It is only 2 megapixels and lacks flash and auto focus. It's only suitable for quick photos and nothing else. The video camera is though slightly better but video calling is not an option. Because of this reason, many will choose, Nokia 5530 instead. The phone has 70 Mb of memory expandable up to 16 GB using a microSD memory card. USB cable is also not included.

The phone is heavier than the Nokia 5530 because of bigger battery. Bigger battery of course means much better battery life.

Nokia 5230 has some good features like large display, 3G, GPS, good battery life and Ovi Store for apps. But some major disappointments are missing WiFi, lack of video calling, a poor camera, and an ordinary music player.

But for budget buyers, it might be a good touchscreen option.
