Your CNA Training options in Philadelphia

It can be difficult to find a job in these days of rampant unemployment. Some are specifically looking for careers in which they can receive their training online, enabling them to partake in part-time jobs while moving forward with their financial health. Becoming a CNA is one of the job opportunities that fulfills these requirements.

The acronym CNA stands for Certified Nursing Assistant. There are jobs available for CNAs all over the US. You can work anywhere from a backwater town to a big city and find your skills will be in demand. Best of all, you can bring your job with you, the most you will ever need to do is update your certificate if you move to a new state.

Choosing to become a CNA has other advantages as well. This is a career, not merely a nine-to-five job. Updating your skills, medical and dental benefits - these are benefits offered to CNAs by their employers that are hard to find.

Becoming a CNA can be your goal, or it can lead to other lucrative careers. Some of the possible jobs you will be prequalified for include Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN).

To begin on your new career, you will have no trouble finding classes to become a CNA. Some classes are fee-based, some are not - you can go to a school near you - and you can actually complete your training in a relatively short period of time. It can also be done online, at home, in your spare time. The fastest way to find the most suitable CNA training class in Philadelphia is to call the Career Training department of the PHA at (215) 684-8250 for more information.

The CNA training class consists of approximately 75 hours of trainings. You will spend about one-third of this time in hands-on practical application - the rest is done in the classroom (or online). Your instructor will provide you with a State Board of Nursing form to fill out after you have completed your training.

There are, in total five steps to becoming a CNA. The first of these is you will receive a personality assessment. You must obviously be interested in helping people, and have the patience to partake in some recurring tasks on a daily basis. You will also be asked if you are willing to take a leadership role in healthcare. As you may well know, patients see assistants and nurses much more often than they do doctors. You will need to be supportive, friendly, helpful, and pay close attention to detail.

Volunteering in a hospital is part of the program. Your volunteer duties will provide you with the full range of what you can expect as an employee at a healthcare facility. Your success at the volunteer work will provide a good indication that you have made a good choice of career path.

Completing the CNA Training Program is the fourth step. Some of the topics included here will be understanding patient care standards, legal issues, and both your and the patients' rights and responsibilities. You will learn how to use basic medical equipment and perform daily care procedures.

Taking the Exam for CNA certification is the final step, and you will be on your way!

After getting your CNA certification in my experience you can find the best CNA and nursing jobs in Philadelphia on the nursing jobs page of the Pennsylvania State Nursing Association.
