Damaged pipe detection-a scientific marvel

Business RSS Feed

Damaged pipes are an issue which many of us faced and can fully inform about the problems that arise due to these damaged pipes. Before we move on to the detection of damaged pipes we must know that why do these pipes get damaged. The first major reason that why do pipes leaks is that they have not been properly fitted into place, it could mean that the joints are not properly secure or it could also mean that the section of pipe is not airtight or the seals are damaged. Secondly it could happen because of very high pressure which is may be because of clogging or defective water meter. The forth reason may be that the hot water wears out the pipes and erodes it away over the time. The fifth reason is that the pipes will rust over the years as everything is not forever.
A damaged or a leaked pipe has to repaired as soon as possible because it will cause massive damaged if left untreated. For example a busted pipe will start erode your walls and floors from inside and you might not even know what measure of damage had taken place.
There several ways to check for damaged pipes. The most old and conventional method is to start digging up the pipes and smashing the sections of walls where pipes, to see locate the damage. This method is too expensive and consumes a lot of time. Furthermore this old method does more damage than it is supposed to repair. So as a result of high consequences and high costs the use of this method has been abandoned by most plumbers.
The second method is similar to the first one but is little more effective, in this method only those spots are dug up or smashed open which show signs of moisture on them or show signs of water damage, but as the time progresses the use this method is also being abandoned as it also consumes up a lot time and money. The third and most emerging method to detect damaged pipes is to use a very small camera. The trick in this method is to move the camera along the pipes with a remote controller unit or push through using wires. When the camera moves through the pipes it transmits a video signal which can be viewed or monitored on a visual unit. During the process the technician can easy identify the damaged parts just by having a look at the video recording taking place. The major setback to this modern day method is that the camera may fail to work due to lack of proper light.
The most advanced and the most acclaimed method of detection of damaged pipes is to use radio technology. The idea is to transmit ultrasound into the walls and ground in order get a sonar image of the plumbing structure. The sonar image is then simply used to detect non-uniform pipes by a computer or a the operator could simply have look at the sonar image to look for the defects.
