Plumbing job training

Business RSS Feed

Who comes to mind when you read the word ‘plumber’? Isn’t it someone with pipes or gutters or toilets or sinks, right? A huge misconception is that we only visualize plumbers at a very low level and do not give them due credit for their contribution towards the industry. But let’s disclose the most shocking of the facts. The plumbers in the construction industry receive the highest pay! You won’t just wake up one day with pipes and drainage system knowledge to become a plumber. There are proper apprenticeship training programs which you have to complete. Apart from that, a plumber might be studying in a technical school or a college for the purpose of training.

So basically, the pattern of your instruction would be based upon the hours you have spent on your job and the in your classroom. Usually the classroom hours are around 114. They basically relate to the study material of mathematical and science subjects. Apart from that, you are also taught the laws, rules and regulations that are related to plumbing. Once you are done with this part that is indeed very boring, you move on to the actual work experience. This is where you start getting the real know-how about this field. You start getting acquainted with the various types of pipes and how to identify them and where are they used. Moving on, you are guided about the plumbing fixtures that include the sink, shower, bathtub, toilet, drains etc. Then you are informed about the various systems such as the drainage system, the disposal system, the water treatment system and many more. All this information with actual hands on experience of different situations -where you might have to repair a fixture or identify the problem or install pipes or fixtures-, would form a sound base and foundation of your career.

Now, you just can’t decide one day that today I will start my training session. You have to be a minimum of 18 years of age to get the training on the first hand. Secondly, you are supposed to be physically adept to fit in tight spaces or climb up or crawl in tight areas. You might even be required to have acquired a diploma from high school or a General Education Degree. Every state usually has its own set eligibility criteria for starting as an apprentice. After your training, you are usually required to pass a licensing test after which you would be given an official license of being a qualified and trained plumber. This could be the start of your independent career if you don’t opt for additional training. In case, you want to take a step further and move up the hierarchy to a management post in your field, you probably would be required to have further training or certain certifications. Being fluent in different languages can also be a very valuable skill in your field as you might have to deal with several people that would not speak your native language. So being a plumber is not just a joke, you have to work hard for it like for any other profession.
