Wash basin fittings and plumbing

Business RSS Feed

Consider a problem that you have on hand, there is a new basin at your home and you want to get it installed. Obviously for many of us it’s a tough job to do by ourselves. What is the first thing that comes in your mind? A plumber can fix it is what comes in most of the peoples mind. The same is our case and we’ll see how to come across this problem. This is simply one of the duties of the plumber to do so.
What type of basin you want to install is another issue that you need to consider. There are basically three types of basins. A vanity basin, this vanity unit provides extra storage space below the sink, plus a counter top next to the sink. This is the common basin in use by many residents. Next is the pedestal basin, this is hollow and conceals the pipe work supplying the system. It also adds support to the basin. It is a reliable and durable type of basin. The third type of the basin is the corner basin; it is a suitable addition to a small room. The water supply and waste-pipes can be connected from either of the two adjacent walls. The pipe work can be easily concealed by boxing in the corner. This saves a lot of the space of your room. Select the type of taps to fit, either pillar taps or mixers for function as well as style. If you are fitting a basin or vanity unit, prepare the work top or surface first.
Before starting to cut, the measurements should be checked carefully. Take the complete measurements and make sure that you check twice and then get the best basin of that size according to your choice. If a template is not supplied with the basin, place the basin upside down on the surface and draw a template of the shape. Use a flat bit to drill a hole large enough for the jig saw blade. Score the cutting line and insert the jigsaw blade, then use the jigsaw to cut a hole in the surface/worktop. Once cut, place the basin on the opening and check the size, making minor adjustments if necessary.
Place mastic or sealing strip all round the outside of the hole. Push the basin firmly into position pressing all the way round to ensure a watertight seal. When you are satisfied the basin is sitting squarely in position, checking with a spirit level, tighten fixing clips underneath the surface, or inside the unit. This was the fitting process of a simple vanity basin. These are the common basins that are in use these days. These were the short steps to achieve the ultimate fitting of this vanity basin. This can hardly be done by a layman and often requires a proper plumber to come and do his task. They are the ones who have specialized in plumbing tasks and know a lot about it.
