How plumbing system works
In our homes we have a proper sewerage system which provides water in all taps of our home. This all occurs due to certain rules and laws of physics such as gravity and pressure. This article will mainly concern with how the plumbing system works. Actually, the plumbing system in our homes consists of two subsystems, one is responsible to bring the water from some external source to the inside of the house and the other takes the waste water from house to some external source. In every street there is a main water pipe, which has a connection with one of the steams of the city. It brings in the water to all the houses of the street and in the same manner the waste water pipe takes the excreta and later through larger underground pipes through that water in the streams maintained by filthy water.
In our house, we have plumbing fixtures are attached with the main pipe that provides the water in the taps in our washrooms, water baths and sinks. Along the path of the main supply there are set the regulators that limit the pressure. At the end of the main supply, there are again provided two pathways for the water to enter. If it enters the cold pipe it will provide us cold water at the end to be used for general use, but if it enters the hot pipe then it would pass through a heater set at the end of the pipe to boil the water. In this heater a thermostat is fixed that will maintain the water at our desired temperature. We use this water especially in winters when there is extreme cold in the weather and the water coming from the main supply is mainly frozen. This water is used in cloth and dish washing also as the spots of grease and dust can easily be removed due to hot water.
Now, if certain kind of problem happens in the main pipe such as rupturing of pipe and leakage at fast speed which if continued would flood the house then the main supply should be shut off. In the pipe there are always present the valves to control the flow of water so locate them and close them tightly. And if there is damage to the gas pipe which is attached with heater, then you will easily come to know about it by the smell of the gas in your compound, so immediately go and close the gas shut off valve. If the leakage in the pipes of fixtures then don’t worry an easy way out from it is the placement of Linoleum tiles in the area or hole from which leakage is occurring. With the help of these tiles a small water leak would turn into a big repair bill, mostly required to cover most kitchen cabinet bottoms. In many cases you can yourself solve the problem of leakage but in certain cases you need to call a plumber such as in the case of repair of heater, shower valve replacement and the tub replacement.
