Before you buy an ebook reader - just to be cool

Book marketing RSS Feed

If you have finally made up your mind that you would like to buy a wireless reading device, and are wondering where you may be able to get an ebook reader, then this article is for you.

These E-readers have been around for a few years now, and they are getting more and more popular. This means that even though you want one, it may be somewhat difficult to find a place that has the model you want in stock. While this isn't a problem with most electronic gadgets, the number of places that will sell people an ebook reader is somewhat limited.

Generally speaking, you will have to shop directly at the company's website that makes the reader you are interested in. For example, if you would like to get a Kindle, then you should try Amazon.com. However, Amazon not only sells the Kindle, but offers competing models as well.

Buying an ebook reader online makes sense, as you will be buying your digital books online, too. As long as you are online looking for e-readers, you can head over to one of the several sites that allow you to make side-by-side comparisons of different models. This can help you make a better informed decision before making purchase. Decide which features you consider absolutely necessary to help narrow down the selection process.

Another thing you should think about is how and where you are most likely to use your ebook reader. If you will be using it while vacationing on the beach, then battery life will be important because recharging the unit won't be all that convenient. However, you plan on using it at home, or on your morning commute (assuming you're not the one driving), then battery life is less of an issue because you will be able to recharge the reader more readily.

Of course, none of the features really matter all that much if you won't be able to find any interesting titles to read. The number of titles being converted to digital format constantly going up. Most e-readers will require you to shop for books through their own store as it is another profit center for them. Amazon now offers 670,000 titles (plus magazines, blogs and over 1,000,000 public domain titles) for the Kindle. Sony isn't at that point, yet, but they are also adding to their digital titles.

Ebook readers are getting more popular. One reason for this is because of how many titles they can hold. Older models were able to hold a few hundred titles, but newer units are capable of holding anywhere from 1,000 to 3,500 separate books. And some even have a port for adding external memory, for even more storage. Think about lugging around even 10 physical books, and the ebook reader becomes even more attractive.

The ebook reader has been around for several years now. But with all of the new features, title availability, battery life and storage capacity, now is as good of a time as any to buy one.
