Tattoo shops are the art of the past in the future

Beauty RSS Feed

Though the exact origins of tattoo shops are hidden in the fog of history, they have long been thought of as the last refuge of sailors or outlaws. During the initial days of this permanent skin art, the work was usually held to those people that had a certain knack for making such artwork, and for those who wanted that same kind of art to adorn their bodies. Centuries of captivating artwork have flowed from this modest origin. Unfortunately, most of these tattoos have been lost over time. However, enough of them have survived, especially in some cultures, that we can appreciate a mix of older and newer designs whenever we walk into a modern tattoo parlor.

Once tattoo shops moved from dark alleys and into the mainstream, it seemed as though more and more elaborate designs and original patterns were made available. This change in the process has made it as easy as walking into a shop, finding your desired image, and then telling the tattoo artist which one you want. A nice fringe benefit of this arrangement is that it allows for more consistency in the product; that is the tattoos that are inked into people's skin.

There used to be a time, not all that long ago, when you would have to venture into the seedy part of town if you wanted a tattoo. You could find tattoo shops if you knew where to look, but they were not the kinds of places most people admitted to knowing about; as if they were somehow dirty. Actually, a lot of them were dirty, as hygiene standards were not what they are today. All of this has changed.

Today you can find tattoo shops right on Main Street, USA. Even smaller towns may have several parlors offering tattoos to the local population. Tattoos are a huge business, largely due to the fact that they are more socially acceptable. A word of warning is in order, though. Just because they are more accepted by society at large, doesn't mean that everyone is understanding of tattoos. For example, a lot of employers will not hire someone if they have visible tattoos (Donald Trump is one famous example of an employer with this policy). The concern is that a tattooed employee may give customers the wrong idea about the business itself. While this attitude is changing, it is still worth keeping it in mind before you get a tattoo.

Tattoo shops also attract a much different clientele than they once did. Sure, sailors and bikers still get tattoos, but you're just as likely to find mothers, business professionals, and people from many different backgrounds interested in getting some inkwork done. This shift in thinking makes finding tattoo shops very easy; you can find them in the phone book or do a search for them online. Either way, you can be sure that finding a place to get a tattoo is quite easy to do.
