Buying used cars

Auto care RSS Feed

In today’s day and age, owing a car has become something of a necessity, but the finances needed to get a brand new car pose as a threat. The solution is simple-buy a second- hand used car instead. By used, it doesn’t at all mean a car whose life is almost ending, or a vehicle that only transports while other conditions do not allow it to be referred as a car.
When thinking of buying a used car, first look at the budget you have at hand. Then after that look for cars that are available in that range. Once you have an idea of what options you have, decide on a model that you want and look up all its technical details so that you can get a better picture of how much the car has been used and what actually are you paying for.
There are many ways to buy used cars. You could either get one from someone who is willing to sell off his car leading to a one on one deal or you could go to a new and used car showroom or a showroom that specifically only deals in used vehicles. It is always better to buy from a showroom owner as the dealing would be less troublesome. You will get to know the details of the car as accurately as possible and also obtain after services and a warranty card on purchase. These offers do not come along when buying from a seller personally.
If you happen to buy the car from someone, always run a thorough check on the car. Always ask questions like why they are selling the car for what purposes the car was being used previously. Also get the mechanics of the car checked by your technician because once sold, you will not be able to claim any shortcomings.
It is very important to take the car on a test drive. This gives you an opportunity to test your comfort level while driving the car and also to check any driving problems that the car might have. Listen for any unusual sounds or variation in the swiftness of the car’s movement at different speed levels. You might also want to test the car by driving it on different kinds of roads and terrain to ensure smooth driving.
Other things that you would want to check are the front and back lights and the dippers. Then there are the brake, clutch, accelerator and all the gears. Also check for any engine and oil leaks. See if the battery is a new one, as a car with an old battery would decrease the value of the car and so would any previous accident maintenance works.
At the time of handshaking over the deal, remember to ask for the registration and ownership papers of the car. This is extremely necessary to be sure that you are buying what you actually wanted to pay for and that you owe the car legally.
